If you've rung around for ceramic coating quotes on the Gold Coast, you've probably seen prices that don't line up. One shop quotes a figure over the phone without seeing the car. Another says "it depends" and leaves it there. A third quotes a price that doesn't mention paint correction at all.

Why our price follows your paint, not the size of your car

Most people expect a bigger car to cost more to coat. At our studio, vehicle size doesn't change the coating price, except for large American trucks (an extra $110 inc GST). A hatch and a mid-size SUV with the same paint condition pay the same.

What does change the price is how much work the paint needs before the coating goes on.

A ceramic coating is clear. It bonds to whatever surface is underneath and holds that finish in place. If there are swirl marks, wash scratches or water-spot etching on the paint, the coating doesn't hide them. It locks them in under a glossy layer. That's why we machine the paint before coating, and why heavily marked paint costs more.

Here's how we grade paint when you use the calculator or bring the car in:

Brand new or lightly swirled: fresh from the dealer, or a well-kept car with only faint wash marks. Machine enhancement brings back clarity, and the coating goes on.
Heavily swirled: visible spider-web swirls in direct sun, usually from years of automatic car washes or dry towelling. This takes more polishing time.
Heavily swirled and scratched: swirls plus deeper marks you can see from a normal standing distance. This needs the most correction before coating.

What you're actually paying for

A ceramic coating quote is mostly labour and preparation. The product in the bottle is only part of it. Here's what happens to your car at our studio, and why each step affects the cost:

Wash and decontamination. On the Gold Coast, paint picks up salt film, airborne fallout and road grime that a normal wash doesn't fully remove. If it isn't stripped off first, it ends up sealed under the coating.
Machine paint enhancement. This is the step that varies most between cars, and it's where most of the time goes.
Drip 9H application. Drip 9H is our own in-house-formulated ceramic coating. It's applied indoors at our Southport studio rather than treated as a quick add-on at the end of a wash.
Extras at the same visit. Glass coating, wheel faces and interior protection are included in the November package. Window tint (from $550) and Front Half PPF can be added at the same visit.

Most cars are with us for 1–3 days, depending mainly on how much paint preparation is needed. We confirm the timing with your quote.

Five questions to ask any ceramic coating installer

Whether you book with us or someone else, these questions help you compare Gold Coast quotes on equal terms:

Is paint correction included, and how much? A coating with no prep is a different product from a coating applied after machine enhancement.
What's the coating called, and who makes it? You should get a product name, not just "ceramic". Ours is Drip 9H, formulated in-house.
Where is it applied? Coatings need a clean, sheltered space while they go on. A driveway in a Gold Coast sea breeze isn't ideal.
What do the warranty terms say? Ask for the written care requirements and terms before you pay. A lifespan claim doesn't mean every type of damage is covered. We're happy to walk you through ours when you get your quote.
Which surfaces are included? Glass, wheels and interior are often extras. Check before you compare headline prices.

Ceramic coating vs PPF: a different budget for a different job

Price comparisons sometimes put ceramic coating and paint protection film side by side. They're not substitutes. Ceramic coating gives gloss, easier washing and resistance to chemical etching from bird droppings, bugs and sap. It won't stop stone chips. The 9H on the label is a pencil-hardness rating, not an impact rating.

Is it worth paying for a professional coating on the Gold Coast?

That depends on how long you'll keep the car and where it lives. A car parked outdoors in Southport, Labrador or along the beachfront gets UV, salt-laden air and summer storms. A coated car is quicker to wash, and contaminants have a harder time bonding to the paint. If you're keeping the car for years, the 10-year coating suits that kind of ownership.
